Prof. Dr. Bernd Henningsen

Prof. Dr. Bernd Henningsen is founding director of and honorary professor at the Department for Northern European Studies, Berlin Humboldt-Universität. He is also head of Baltic Sea School Berlin, since 2005 and honorary professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen.

Research/publications on philosophy, culture, and identity of the North, political and welfare systems of the Nordic countries and Baltic Sea region.

Education:

1972 M.A - Political Science, Nordic Philology, Philosophy and Psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University München;

1974 Ph.D. - Die Politik des Einzelnen. Zur Genese der skandinavischen Ziviltheologie;

1984 - Habilitation (Der Wohlfahrtsstaat Schweden);

Guest Lecturer at various universities:

1989-1992 Free University Berlin;

1992-2002 Professor of Scandinavian studies/Culture studies at the Department for Northern European Studies of Humboldt University Berlin;

Since May 2002 Professor of Political Science at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University Greifswald.
