BDF Initiates Closer Dialogue with Russian Stakeholders on Energy

20 May 2009
BDF co-organises a workshop on energy with Russian stakeholders in Kaliningrad on 10-11 June 2009.

The development of the energy systems in the Baltic Sea Region tends to be more and more complex to overview as the systems and energy markets evolve. There is no longer one solution only, and there is a need for coordinated cooperation. It presupposes and involves mutual trust to apply a regional dimension in national energy planning and a shared understanding of the regional priorities.

Baltic Development Forum has, together with BASREC Energy Co-operation and Nordic Council of Ministers' Information Office in Kaliningrad, and with support from Union of Baltic Cities and Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, initiated the establishment of a constructive dialogue with Russian partners. As part of this dialogue a workshop will be held in the region of Kaliningrad, Russian Federation, on 10-11 June 2009 with the theme “Energizing Sustainable Growth”.

The objective of this workshop is to promote a shared understanding and to improve the regional energy cooperation with Russian partners. The involvement of all stakeholders is a prerequisite for successful regional energy cooperation. The workshop may serve as a platform for bridging different interests and learning more about the Russian perspectives on enhanced energy cooperation

At the workshop, the results of a study on enhanced energy cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region will be presented as a basis for the discussion. The Study and its different scenarios have been initiated by Baltic Development Forum and developed by the consultancy firm Ea Energy Analysis. It is financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Invitations to concerned stakeholders have been sent out separately. For more information please contact Project Manager Inese Podgaiska at BDF, Phone +45 60 21 85 75 and E-mail ip@bdforum.org.
