State of the Region Report 2008 - Sustaining Growth at the Top of Europe
25 November 2008
Why are some regions more successful than others? This straight forward, yet complex question has
become easier to give an answer to due to the annual State of the Region Report. The 2008 edition of the Report is now ready and will be presented at the BDF Summit 1 December.
The State of the Region Report 2008 has been written by Dr. Christian Ketels, and is prepared for the Baltic Development Forum in collaboration with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) and the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM).
Key factors influencing competitiveness of the Region have been identified and traced since the first report was
published in 2004. The 2008-report gives further insights by adding new aspects and by highlightening political events that have infl uenced the Baltic Sea Region’s economic environment. This year’s report also highlights two important sectors shaping the future of the Region, environment and energy, important in their own right but also in relation to the competitiveness of the Region.
