Globalisation Forum, The Blue Lagoon, 26-27 February, Iceland

25 February 2009
Nordic Council of Ministers organises 26-27 February 2009 its second Globalisation Forum. The Forum will allow the Nordic Prime Ministers to discuss the most burning issues of globalisation.

Experts, researchers, business representatives, financial institutions, media-people and representatives of international organisations are invited to take part in the Forum that has the following topics on the agenda:

  • The financial crisis
  • Innovation and national competitiveness
  • Workshops on three issues: (1) The vulnerability of small economies in times of crisis, (2) Progressive climate policies in times of crisis, (3) Energy, environment and innovation.

Prominent speakers such as Prof. Kenneth Rogoff, Harvard and Curtis Carlson President of SRI International will introduce the different subjects.

The Globalisation Forum is part of the NCM’s strong orientation towards finding common Nordic solutions to global pressures and challenges. The venue of the meeting is very pertinent. Iceland knows better than anyone of the Nordic countries the strong forces of globalisation and the need to collaborate in order to address the challenges.

In many senses the agenda of the first two Nordic Forum Summits complement well the work and focus of Baltic Development Forum (BDF). Hopefully many of the results of the Forum could be taken up in the larger regional setting of the Baltic Sea Region and serve as inspiration. BDF that is invited to the Forum (Director Hans Brask will participate) will endeavour to serve this role in relation to the 2009 BDF Summit that takes place this year in Stockholm 5-6 October in Stockholm.
