Conference on the new Northern Dimension

On 28/2-1/3 2007, Baltic Development Forum took part in the European Parliament Conference on the new Northern Dimension Policy and Baltic Sea Strategy. Speakers and participants at the conference were Commissioners, Ministers, Council representatives and MEP’s.
A main theme for discussion was the Northern Dimension policies related to the Baltic Sea Region. Within its conclusions, the Conference underlined “the economic significance of the Baltic Sea Region with its high growth rates, strong science base and high innovation potential to Europe as a whole. It also supported the work for a Baltic Sea strategy for the Northern Dimension”.
Furthermore, the Conference called for a Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum to be established to promote coordination and exchange of views between different institutions for regional cooperation in northern Europe, and to promote opportunities for discussion, new initiatives and oversight in general.
Baltic Development Forum supports these conclusions and will continue to work closely with the European Parliament and the European Commission to improve the state of the Baltic Sea Region for the benefit of Europe as a whole.
