Sida Baltic Sea Unit has been assigned by the Swedish Government to promote cooperation between stakeholders in Sweden and the countries bordering the Baltic Sea, particularly Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the Baltic Sea provinces of Russia. The Baltic Sea Unit does not deal with aid and will not fund development projects. It will mainly aim at starting up partnerships and networks by providing support to seminars, courses, exchange trips and pilot studies. It will focus on cross-border and multisectoral issues that are of mutual interest for Sweden and the countries across the Baltic Sea. Examples of such issues are environment, energy, matters like migration, labour market, crime, maritime safety, regional development, innovations and health and social issues.
