BaltMet Meeting in Berlin on 10-11 February 2005

"Baltic Metropoles - Major Poles of Innovation"

The Baltic Sea region scores high on measures of innovation. It leads in the field of scientific innovation, but registers only average in turning innovation into growth and prosperity. A better mobilisation of the economic potential lying in the innovation capacity is clearly critical for the development of the region.

The metropolises, being concentrations of knowledge, talent and entrepreneurial ability, play a key role in organising the innovation environment.

The low level of cross-border interaction and brain circulation between the hubs of the Baltic Sea Region limit the competitive edge of the BSR. Enhancing of mobility and attraction of investments is a common challenge for Baltic metropolises. This effort is shared with many of the scientific and business actors of the region.

The Mayors of eleven major metropolises
invite the key players in the baltic sea region development to discuss on how metropolises can create favourable conditions for innovative activity yielding new economic value.

Mayors' Meeting will conclude the common challenges in the BaltMet Action Plan 2005-2007. The broad perspective is further focused in the Baltic Sea Region Micro/Nanotechnologies Seminar.
